Mary Ellen Welch, age 78, of Townsend, DE, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family, Friday, March 18, 2022. Mary was a valued employee for New Castle County where she worked as a radio dispatcher. She loved all animals from cats to birds. Mary enjoyed going to music concerts and was a big Elvis fan. One of her favorite trips was when she visited Graceland in Memphis. Mary also traveled to Disney World and vacationed in Dewey Beach every year. When she wasn’t working or traveling, she could be found watching sitcoms and spending time with her cherished family. Mary is survived by her loving husband, of 59 years, Clinton Welch, Sr.; children: Clinton Welch Jr., Steven Welch (Rebecca), and Shawn Welch grandchildren: Leanne Cochran (Jason), Angela Tobin, Shane Welch (Lindsay), Keegan Welch (Megan), Elizabeth Welch, Ricky Clark, and Regan Welch; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Catherine Cook; brother, James Cook (Jackie); sister, Eleanor Cornelius (Bill), and grandson, Andrew Tobin. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 5:30-7 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Mary’s life at 7 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mary’s memory to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr., Wilmington, DE 19804.
