Patricia Yvonne Scales

December 1, 1940 - January 10, 2022

Patricia Yvonne Scales (Sims) unexpectedly passed away on January 10, 2022. She was born on December 1, 1940, to the late Thomas and Ella Sims. Patricia was the 9th of 10 children who grew up in the family household located on 14th Street in Wilmington, DE. She had a wonderful childhood that she spoke of often, as well as a childhood friend named Gilbert. Patricia, also known dearly as Pat or Patsy, attended public elementary and Howard High School. After school she moved to Brookline, Massachusetts for many years with her sister Betty. She later returned to Delaware and obtained a job working with General Motors. She retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Patricia went on to accept a job with the state as a toll collector because she enjoyed interacting with people of all walks of life. In addition to the delight she received while working as a toll collector, she was a very modest and private person who enjoyed being at home with her loved ones. Patricia enjoyed talking on the phone, watching movies and playing video games. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending as much time with her grandson as possible. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. Pat is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Scales Jr; her children: William “Rick” Exum (Eileen) and her daughter Natalie Scales-Lopez (Josh); her dedicated grandson, John Townsend III, eldest grandson, Terrence Newton (Paula); devoted nephew, Shannon Watson; her brother, Leonard Sims (Carol); sisters: Brenda Ford (Thomas) and Rena Wright; sisters-in-law: Theresa Thomas-Gladsky and Renee Lambert (Donald); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, family members, and a few friends, she was also preceded in death by her two sons, Earl M. Exum Jr and Keeno E. Exum.
