Rebecca E. Noetzel, of Newark, DE, passed peacefully at home among family in the morning hours of March 10, 2021. Becky or “Gram” was born on May 2, 1930, to Eliza Jane and Samuel Ford Eskridge in Galestown, MD. She was a graduate of Laurel High School where she played basketball and participated in the 4H Club. Upon graduating, she became and remained an active member of her 1948 alumni class. After high school, Becky moved to Wilmington, DE, and began working at the Hercules Telephone Company before landing at Diamond Ice and Coal where she met her husband, Carl Maurice Noetzel, Jr. Becky and Carl started their family while living in Fairfax before moving to Sharpley where they lived most of their lives. Becky was an avid golfer who won many matches and awards as a member of the Wilmington Country Club’s 9 hole women’s group. She spent her summers sunning herself either at home or at the Jersey Shore - her happy place. Becky was happiest when surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted Catholic; a member of St Mary Magdalen church for years before moving to Newark, DE, to be closer to family. Becky is survived by her sister, Grace Eskridge Arnold; her children: Christopher Noetzel (Kim), Amy Caricchio (Jeff), Mary Beth Barnes (Ken), and Stephen Noetzel (Michele); her grandchildren: Andrew Caricchio (Katie), Zachary Kerstetter, Reilly Noetzel (Cierra), Savanna Barnes, Logan Barnes, Ellis Noetzel, and Merrill Noetzel; and her great-grandchild, Cornelia Noetzel. She was predeceased by her late husband, Carl M. Noetzel, Jr.; and her sisters: Ruth Jane Eskridge (Poppiti), Laura Ann Eskridge, and Maude Vesta Eskridge. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021, from 9-10:30 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 345 Bear Christiana Rd., Bear, DE 19701. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
