Robert W. Spear

November 16, 1943 - January 3, 2022

Robert W. Spear, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2022. He was the son of the late Samuel and Sara Applegate Spear. He was also preceded in death by his older sister, Patricia McCaffrey. Bob graduated from Wilmington High School and then proudly served in the US Navy for 6 years during the Vietnam War. He earned an Associate’s degree from UCLA and went on to work for about 20 years for Trans-World Airlines. Bob also worked for and retired from, the Delaware Army National Guard after 20 years of dedicated service. He was known there as “Spearman”. His humor and fun-loving ways will be sadly missed. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Crosby; son, Jason and twin granddaughters, Ashley and Jessica of Napa, CA; daughter, Yvonne and granddaughter, Athena of Chico, CA; sisters, Barbara (Larry) of New Castle, DE, and Linda Ritchie (Harry -Deceased) of Dagsboro; extended family; and his DNG colleagues. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 11 AM – 12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Bob’s life at 12 Noon. Burial will be private in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The link for the live stream of the service will be posted at a later time. A memorial social gathering will be announced in the future after pandemic concerns are no longer an obstacle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Bob’s memory to the Delaware Center for Homeless Veterans, 1200 N Walnut St, Wilmington, DE 19801.
