Ronald L. Brown

May 14, 1947 - February 15, 2022

Ronald L. Brown, age 74, of Bear, DE, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Born in Sunbury, PA, on May 14, 1947, to the late James and Kathryn Brown, he grew up in Northumberland, PA. Ronald graduated from Northumberland High School in 1965 – the last graduating class from this high school. He earned a two-year degree in computer technology at Kansas City, Missouri and Williamsport Area Community College. He graduated from Wilmington University in 2007 with a BS degree in Information Resource Management - Managerial. He received his diploma on his 60th birthday. Ronald was a loving and gracious husband, father and Pop-Pop. He was a dedicated employee for the Franklin Mint and Blue Cross Blue Shield and retired in 2009. Ronald enjoyed fishing at Sunset Lake, Camp Pecometh, and OBX. He loved to cook and eat out at new and old favorite restaurants. Ronald had a great sense of humor and quick wit - could counter quickly with several puns. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the Phillies, with his favorite player being Richie Ashburn. As a dedicated and tireless Christian servant for our Lord Jesus Christ, Ronald was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church for 50 years. He taught Adult Sunday School, led youth group, was a lay leader, lay speaker, served on many committees, facilitated Disciple Bible Studies and spiritual gifts workshops at the local and district level. Ronald encouraged and prompted several church members to pursue a career in pastoral ministry. At St. Mark's, he began a children's sermon time during the morning worship hour, invited folk to be prayer angels during the service, and coordinated lay readers to read Scripture. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Camping and Retreat Ministries for Camp Pecometh, Centreville, MD and was instrumental in encouraging and securing the final approval to build a retreat center on this property. For many years he was a delegate to the Annual Conference of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference. Ronald was awarded the Order of St. Barnabas for outstanding service in the ministry of Stewardship. He was an active member of Delmarva Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis. Ronald served on many teams and sponsored many folks to attend these weekend events for spiritual growth. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jane; children: Kevin Brown (Ginger); Chris Brown (Kathy), and Dr. Kelly Brown; and granddaughter, Emily Brown. He also has many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Bowles. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 10-11:30 AM at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19804 followed by a service in celebration of Ronald’s life at 11:30 AM. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Internment of ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to St. Mark's UMC or Camp Pecometh, 136 Bookers Wharf Rd., Centreville, MD 21617 For directions or to send an online condolence visit www.stranofeeley.com
