Virginia Colon
October 19, 1953 - April 16, 2022
Virginia Colon, age 68, of Bear, DE, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022. Virginia graduated from Wilmington High School and attended Wilmington College. She was a bright light for everyone who knew her. Virginia was devoted to her husband of 53 years, Tony. She loved spending time with her family. She had a passion for traveling with her children and grand/great-grandchildren. Virginia would always tell them to “keep a map in your car and you won’t get lost”. Her children have fond memories of trips with their mother down Route 9 to go fishing and swimming. They would all bring flashlights so at night they could see how many deer they could spot. This became a tradition passed down to each generation. Holidays were always made special time. Virginia enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and listening to oldies on her favorite radio station 98.1. She will be fondly remembered in her robe and flip-flops drinking iced tea and having a cigarette in her hand. Her motto for life was “Don’t stress and enjoy life.” She will be dearly missed. Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Irene Tony Colon; 6 children: Ruth Johnson (Dominique), Bobby Jo, Lisa Duffy (Herman), Tony Colon (Stephanie), Tammy Saunders (Bruce), and Carmen Colon-Motes (James); 13 grandchildren: David, Jennifer, Tiffany, Kendall, Daquan, Bruce Jr., Quincy, Colin, Jayden, Tyler, Maddie, Olivia, and Tony Jr.; siblings: Sarah Poole, Harry Poole, Raymond Poole, and William Poole; niece, Kathy Roman-Grasty; nephew, Jose Roman, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mable Dettinger; and siblings, Charles Poole and Emma Dettinger. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 12 PM at Augustine Beach, 1887 St Augustine Rd, Middletown, DE 19709. To send an online condolence, visit www.stranofeeley.com
