William Holliday Cross, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Mr. Cross was a United States Navy veteran, who proudly served his country during WWII. After retiring from Delmarva Power and Gas, he served on the DE Board of Veterinary Medicine. As Bonnie, Billy, and Barry were growing up, Bill was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent for the Christiana Presbyterian Church, and served as the PTA President for Christiana Elementary School. Bill and Janet were well known in the area for their farm on Canoe Club Road and were featured many times in the local newspaper and on TV. During his stay at Dawnview Complete Care he was elected King. Bill was dearly loved by those who cared for him and the other residents. William is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Pike; sons, Barrett Cross (Rita), and William “Bill” Cross (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Justin (Chelsea), Jason (Sara), Zachary (Olivia), Katrina (Susan), Aaron (Dana), Nathan (Megan), Ryan, and Natalie; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Cameron, Harper, Marivella, Caitlynn, and Olivia; devoted friend, Gregg Mazlewski; and his Welsh Corgi, Tasha. William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Janet; Sister, Sue McCoy, and son-in-law, Wilson Pike. The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at Dawnview Complete Care, where they were able to keep him free from COVID-19, and made him feel loved when his family could not be with him during the Coronavirus pandemic. A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 10 to 11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702, where a service in celebration of William’s life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Christiana Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christiana Presbyterian Church, 15 N Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702.
