Abigail Mae (Witmer) Ernst

Abigail Mae (Witmer) Ernst, born June 17, 1995 (28), of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. She was the brightest of lights in so many people’s lives, but suffered from her darkness within, much of which came from circumstances beyond her control. Abbie was a passionate follower of Jesus; adoring and loving wife to Matthew; she was her father’s joy and her mother’s sunshine; the third parent to her siblings - the leader, protector, confidant, and friend. She was a loving granddaughter, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and aunt. She held her friends in her heart very closely and they became her extended family. She was a sweet and sometimes sour stinker whom we all adored. Abbie loved her fur-boys Sirius and Toulouse. She was very creative in things decorative and crafty. She was an avid Disney collector; she especially connected to the Villians and Alice in Wonderland - she felt like Alice. She loved dressing up and expressing herself with jewelry, makeup, costumes, and tattoos. Her tattoos had deep meanings. She was a “crazy plant lady”, broad reader, hesitant PK (pastor’s kid), and a theologian in her own right. Abbie loved Redeemer Fellowship and being a Code-Red leader with Matthew. Abigail excelled at her position as an Employee Health Services Coordinator at Nemours Children’s Hospital of Delaware. Abbie is survived by her husband, Matthew Ernst; her parents, Tobe and Amy Witmer; her siblings: Andrew, Daniel (Hannah), Ellie, and Emma; her parents-in-law, sisters- and brother-in law; her nieces, Juliana, Valerie, and Bella; her grandmothers; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends whom Abbie considered family. Abbie was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Floyd C. Chapman and Raymond M. Witmer. A viewing will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 9-11 AM at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1842 Otts Chapel Rd. Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Abigail’s life at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, 428 Port Penn Rd. Middletown, DE.
