Agnes Stanley Bentley

Agnes Stanley Bentley, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. She was born in Bear, DE, on August 15, 1936, daughter of the late Howard Wells Stanley, Sr. and Lillian Webb Stanley. Agnes graduated from Newark High School where she was the class musician and then attended Delaware Tech and Community College. She worked at E. I. DuPont de Nemours where she met her future husband, John. She also worked at AT&T, St. Francis Hospital, Delaware Curative Workshop, Dr. Chattergee OBGYN, and Asthma Allergy Care of Delaware. Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She faithfully attended Fairwinds Baptist Church. Agnes was an excellent cook, keeping her family well-nourished. She particularly enjoyed having guests and the family at dinners she prepared and at outdoor barbecues. She was an expert counted thread embroidery advocate (counted cross-stitch), attending conventions throughout the East Coast. Agnes taught several counted cross-stitch classes at her home for interested parties. She designed and marketed her designs in the eastern half of the United States. Agnes is survived by her granddaughter and husband, Lauren and Michael S. Truman; great-grandchildren: Isabel Truman, Tyler Freidly, Michael Truman Jr., and Alaina Truman; brother-in-law and wife, Peter and Mary Ann Bentley; sister-in-law, Judith Bentley, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Bentley; son, Kevin Bentley; sisters, Evelyn Bendler and Pearl Parson; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis Stanley, Clarence Stanley (Ceceila), Howard Stanley (Joan), and Douglass Stanley (Carol). A visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 10-11 AM at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Ave, Bear, DE 19701 followed by a service in celebration of Agnes’s life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Georges Cemetery.
