Albert L. Chandler

Albert L. Chandler, age 88, of Newport, Delaware, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. Born in 1937 in Bozoo, West Virginia, Albert lived a long and meaningful life defined by dedication to his family, hard work, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. He was the son of the late George and Beulah Chandler. Albert was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freda Chandler; his daughter, Betty; and his siblings, Irma Sue and Harry Wayne. Albert proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after serving in the motor pool during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began a long and respected career with Chrysler, where he worked as a glass installer for 30 years before retiring. Albert is survived by his children: Susan Dowd (Robert), Janet McGhee, Karen Jones, Charles McGhee (Miya), and Carl McGhee (Vicki). He was a proud grandfather to: Andrew (Alyssa), Christopher (Caitlin), Mary, John, Bobbie, Charlotte, and Laura; and a cherished great-grandfather to: Quincy, Isabella, Angel, Cameron, and Jackson. He is also survived by his nephew, Steve (Cindy) and niece, Sheila; his loving companion, Sonya Nielson; his dear friend, Leola Sammons-Marsh; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Albert found great joy in life’s everyday pleasures. He loved riding his Honda Goldwing and traveling across the country on the open road. He was a fan of classic westerns, especially Gunsmoke, enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, and rarely missed watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys play. Albert was known for his competitive spirit at the rummy table—though he especially disliked losing to his daughter Janet. He also enjoyed oyster dinners, spending time in his garage working on cars, fixing anything that needed attention, and sharing his mechanical knowledge and life wisdom with his grandsons, something they will carry with them forever. Albert will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his practical wisdom, his sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family. Albert’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 9:30-11 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE, 19702. A celebration of life will begin at 11 AM.
