Rev. Cheryl Smith

Reverend Cheryl Smith, age 75, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, September 1, 2025. She was born on January 26, 1950, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, at John Taylor Hospital. As the daughter of a military father, she spent her childhood growing up in many states including: Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Ohio. During her father’s overseas deployments she lived in Pennsylvania with her mother, sisters, and maternal grandparents. She attended schools in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and ultimately graduated in 1968 from Colonel White High School in Dayton, Ohio. In 1969, Cheryl moved to Delaware where she met and later married the love of her life, Curt. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 1993. Following Curt’s death, Cheryl pursued her calling for ministry. She moved to Pennsylvania to attend Valley Forge Christian College, earning a degree in Pastoral Studies with a minor in Counseling in 2000. She was ordained by Full Gospel and mentored by Dr. Annamae Strauser. In 2012 she moved back to Delaware to be near her family, where she remained until she called Heaven her home. Cheryl’s life was marked by her deep devotion to Jesus Christ. She faithfully shared the message of salvation, served the homeless, and counseled many in need. In her younger years, Cheryl enjoyed gymnastics, playing the violin, modeling, and participating in Ducamus, her high school sorority. She will be remembered for her faith, her compassion, and the love she poured into the lives of those around her. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her. Cheryl is survived by her children: Kimberly Shahan (Bill Jr.), Krista Havens (Bill), Keri Krulik (John), and Curt Heisner; grandchildren: Kathleen Shahan, Sarah Lodico (Chris), Cyndi Devito (Tony), Ariel Carney (Conner), Aiyana Havens, Emmy Havens, Chloe, and Geordan; great grandchildren: Cameron, Casidi, Marli, Silas, Remi, Jacob, Ava, and Tristan; siblings: Debbie Lassiter and Becky Kalbach (Michael); lifelong friend/brother, Ken Shubert (Rosemary), and niece, Dorrie Kalbach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curt Heisner; parents, Dot and Jack; sons-in-law: Bill Jr. and Brian; brother, William Thomas Lassiter; and brother-in-law, Michael Kalbach. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 2-3 PM at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702.
