Christine V. Verucci

Christine V. Verucci, of Newark, DE passed away on April 22, 2026 at the age of 76. She was surrounded by her loved ones during her final moments. Christine was born in Wilmington, DE on August 15, 1949 to the late Dorothy and George Beggs. In her early years, she attended Brown Vocational School where she studied Cosmetology, which she later turned into her career as a hairdresser at the Brandywine Springs Nursing Home. She remained in the New Castle area where started a family with her late husband James Verucci. Later in life, she retired and spent her time helping take care of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly. She loved watching soap operas and game shows, drinking Pepsi and hot tea with milk and a tremendous amount of sugar, and hosting Sunday family dinners. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis songs, attending Holly Adult Day Center, and playing the slots at Delaware Park. Known to many as “Ms. V,” Chris dedicated years of her life to the local community through youth football and cheerleading. Starting as a team mom and director of the Stanton Clippers in the Capitol Trail Junior Football League (CTJFL) alongside her husband who coached, she later became the President of the New Castle County Football League (NCCFL). She served as the President of NCCFL until its end in 2012. Throughout the years, Christine touched the lives of many. Her love for helping children, sports and the community kept her busy and brought her much joy. Christine is survived by her daughter, Michelle; son, Harry (Ms. Leslie); grandchildren: Morgan, Madison, Kayla, Justin, Christopher, Damani, Davon, Mathue, and Cassie; great-granddaughter, Melody. She is also survived by her brother, Michael (Cookie); sister, Susan (William); and brother, Leslie (Kathy), as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Verucci; parents, George and Dorothy Beggs; and brother, Lawrence Beggs. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home from 10:30am-12pm, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702; with a small service beginning at 12pm. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701.
