Donald M. Brady

Donald M. Brady (76) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026. Friendly, boisterous and always outgoing, Don loved to engage anyone and everyone in discourse on sports, history, or the general events of the day. Always a voracious scholar and storyteller, he never shied away from sharing his opinion or his fonts of historical knowledge. He loved (and hated, of course) to watch the home teams, especially the Phillies and Flyers, and to listen to classic rock at a volume that would blow out your speakers. In recent years he found community in a local Texas Hold ’em Poker League, as well as becoming more spiritual and reigniting his faith. Don was a collector of many things, including coins, baseball cards and video tapes. He had a particular passion for movies, amassing an extensive collection and inserting favorite quotes routinely into everyday conversation. This helped to keep him young at heart, and for many years, he enjoyed nothing more than sharing classic films with his daughter. A lifelong resident of Delaware, Don loved living in bucolic Hockessin. He cherished the little things like a nice weekend drive along the back roads, over covered bridges, and growing lots of different veggies in his expansive garden. A graduate of A.I. DuPont High School, he later earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Delaware. He had a diverse career, including several years working as a golf pro, but he was always especially proud of his time substitute teaching. Don is survived by his daughter, Katherine (Jeffrey) and granddaughter Marissa. Also survived by two brothers, Jim (Marianne) and Jerry; his niece, Christine; and nephew, Jim and their families; as well as his friend, Steve, who helped take care of him in the final years of his life. He is preceded in death by his father, James M. Brady, Sr. and mother, Anita whom he lived with and cared for until her passing, as well as his beloved golden retriever, Becca. Devoted to his family, loyal to lifelong friends, and endlessly proud of his status as a father and ultimately Pappy, Don’s presence will be missed by those who loved him. A burial service will be held at the Hockessin Friends Meeting Cemetery, 1501 Old Wilmington Rd., Hockessin, DE, 19707, on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 2:00pm.
