Dorothy McGrath Lechmanik

Dorothy McGrath Lechmanik, age 80, of Newark, Delaware went home to the Lord on November 7, 2025. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Rita (Denver) McGrath and Joseph Thomas McGrath. Lovingly known as Dottie, she was a devoted wife, mother and Mom-Mom. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends. Dottie worked as a DuPont laboratory technician for over 23 years. She enjoyed doing all types of creative outlets including: puzzles, gardening, sewing, crafting and crossword puzzles. Being a fan of storytelling, Dottie was also an avid reader, movie goer and musical theater lover. She loved singing and passed that love of music onto her children and grandchildren. Dottie enjoyed traveling and went on many wonderful trips with her church friends and family. Some of her favorite destinations were Ireland, Poland, the Vatican, Colorado, and New Mexico where she visited an Indian Reservation with her Indian Nations church group. Dottie was very involved in church ministries at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church including the Decorating, Bereavement, Liturgy, 50+ Club, Bingo, and Hope Dining Room Ministries. She loved Christmas baking and was especially known for her delicious breads. Dottie taught herself how to crochet and quilt in anticipation of the births of her grandchildren. She went on to make blankets for each of her beloved grandchildren, whether at birth or later for other special milestones. Dottie was a special person who was deeply loved and will be forever missed. In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Jerome Lechmanik; her beloved daughter, Jeanine Ann Lechmanik; her brother, Thomas R. McGrath and many cherished extended family members. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Furman (Michael) and Linda Reagan (Daniel); her son, Jason Lechmanik (Jen Spahn); six grandchildren: Andrew, Simon, Connor, Molly, Aidan, and Max; and a host of extended family and friends. The tremendous loss we feel is only overshadowed by the strong sense of family unity she created. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 9:30 to 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE 19701. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 AM. There will be a luncheon following Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Burial will take place privately at All Saints Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church or The American Indian Cancer Foundation.
