Grace Wanjiku Waweru

Grace Wanjiku Waweru, age 86, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024 and went home to be with her Lord and personal Savior, Jesus Christ. She was the matriarch of the Waweru family, the mother of nine children (five in the USA, three in Kenya, and one who has passed away), and a grandmother and maitu to over 50 descendants. Known for her amazing memory and great sense of humor, she was very intentional and held special relationships with everyone she knew. She was known for scrolling through her phonebook and calling friends and family to check in and follow up on previous conversations. Her legacy will be her unwavering love for her family and the importance she placed on always being there for one another. In Kenya, she ran a storefront in the village where she sold fresh eggs and produce. She would often watch over her grandchildren at the store, who loved being there for the sweets she would give them. She would sing church hymns with them and share teachings about Jesus, advising her grandkids to always follow His commandments. Her devotion to and love for God will forever be reflected in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Grace was a loving wife to Francis Waweru Njoroge, and was mother to Nancy Cece of New Castle, Delaware, the late John Njoroge, David Kagicha of Kenya, Eliud Ngugi, Agnes Ngugi, Nellie Waweru, and Serah Waweru all of Newark, Delaware, Caroline Waweru and Mercy Waweru both of Kenya. She was mother-in-love to Jecinta Njoroge of Boston, Massachusetts, Ngugi Kiarie of Newark, Delaware, and Oscar Mungai Njoroge of Boston, Massachusetts, among others in Kenya. Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial on Sunday, July 28 at St. Veronica Anglican Church Mission Church 1545 Church Rd, Bear, DE 19701, as well as a viewing and wake service on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 3:30pm – 5 pm at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635, Churchmans Road in Newark. Grace will then be laid to rest on Thursday, August 1 in Kenya.
