Henry Clay Whitlock Jr.

Sunrise Henry Clay Whitlock, Jr. born in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Henry Clay Whitlock, Sr. and Dorothy Smith Whitlock, was their only loving child. Sunset He transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on March 16, 2023. Love for Life Henry, affectionately known as Clay, was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Ridley Park High School and received a scholarship to Princeton University. He attended for two years before serving his country in the army and then returned to Pennsylvania where he started his career as an encyclopedia salesman. On a blind date in 1958, he met Kathy Neuhaus, the first love of his life and married her in 1960. He often said that the birth of his daughter, Paris Dawn, in 1964 was the proudest moment of his life. Clay and Kathy were devoted members of the Lutheran church. In fact, Clay began a men’s group that helped to build the church. For the next 48 years, Clay and Kathy traveled extensively and lived in Honolulu, HI, Chicago, IL, Chester, PA, and Tempe, AZ. They shared their love with others through music, playing the guitar and singing at weddings. All his life, Clay was also an avid animal lover and tennis player. In 2008, Kathy was called to be with the Lord. Two years later, God granted Clay the opportunity to love again when he met Dr. Bonnie English and married her the following year. They shared their golden years together as the best versions of themselves, dancing, laughing, listening to music, and enjoying trips to Hawaii. For the last four years of Clay's life, Bonnie was his devoted caregiver until he went to heaven. Remaining faithful to God, Clay attended East Point Community Church in Bear, DE with Bonnie. He rededicated his life to the Lord with Pastor J.D. Willetts of East Point Community Church. Clay loved to make personalized gifts. He enjoyed creating handmade cards for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and other special occasions with a heart so big and capable of loving, Clay and Bonnie welcomed pets Pepper, Snapdragon, Anita, and Daisy into their family. Achievements Clay believed education was extremely important. After an honorable discharge from the military, Clay earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. Throughout his life, he was a successful real estate broker. A memorable moment was successfully negotiating the sale of the Thrifty Rent-a-Car franchise. Loved Ones His life will be cherished by his wife, Bonnie, daughter, Paris Dawn Whitlock-Fiegen (Scott) of Evans, Georgia, grandchildren, Nicole and Jeffrey, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Service Details A visitation will be held Friday, March 24, 2023, from 3-4 PM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Clay’s life at 4 PM.
