Isabella M. Shiner

Isabel Shiner of Millsboro, DE passed away on July 31, 2024. Isabel was born in Bellshill, Scotland, the land that she loved. She lived a challenging life during her youth growing up in the war and being separated from her mom and dad for a lengthy period. Isabel was so proud of her affiliation with the Salvation Army while she was in Scotland. She loved telling everyone that she was the tambourine player and still had a love for it. Trying to grab that golden ring, Isabel and her first husband, Ian, moved to America in 1956. She never gave up her Scottish Heritage. Isabel would gather with the Scottish clan to sing and dance every chance they got. The bond with her Scottish community was strong and they became her family here in America. Isabel was so proud of her son and daughter as they took on the customs of her homeland. Everyone who knew Isabel would call her the Queen or as we called her during her last days, “The belle of the ball”. She gave it a good fight at the end but finally took the hand of God and moved on to a better place. We have all gained another angel. We know that she will be watching over us. Isabel will be deeply missed but always remembered for her unwavering love. Her family was her world and she loved them unconditionally. She was one that always had to know everything, as she reminded us all the time, now she has the best view and her wish for knowing all is hers. Isabel is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Michael); her son, Russell (Karen); four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; father, Matthew Taylor; mother, Sybella Jane Taylor; sister, Sybella Meek; and brother, Thomas Taylor. We will be celebrating the life of Isabel on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. Visitation will begin at 10 AM followed by a service at 11 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, 400 North Orange Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Isabel’s family would like to thank Brookdale Dover staff for the wonderful care and kindness that they extended to her during her stay.
