Jacklene S. Poe

Jacklene Sue Poe, lovingly known as Jackie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. She was born on December 29, 1941, in Montcalm, West Virginia, to the late Clayton and Ruby Miller. Jackie was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for God, her family, and her church guided her entire life. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a young adult and faithfully served the Lord throughout her life. For many years, she was a dedicated member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, where she attended with her late husband, Ambrose “Mont” Poe. Jackie cherished her time at the church, especially occasionally leading the ladies’ Bible study on Friday mornings. After graduating from Montcalm High School, Jackie moved to Delaware to live with her oldest sister, Mona. It was there she met her future husband, Mont, on a blind date. They were married within a year and spent 62 wonderful years together. Jackie was a devoted homemaker while raising their three children, and she later worked as a bank teller for many years. Jackie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved gardening, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and generously supporting her church and various charities. She enjoyed relaxing activities like coloring with friends and treasured the quiet moments she spent reading her Bible—often for hours early in the morning. She also loved trips to the local library, garage sales, and finding bargains at Goodwill. Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mont Poe; her parents, Clayton and Ruby Miller; and her sister, Arlene Roberts. She is survived by her children: Michael (Louise) Poe, Mitchell (Dedra) Poe, and Michelle (John) Taylor. She is also survived by her siblings: Mona Dudley, Judy Moses, Pat Vanhoose, Dallas Miller, Deona Mabe, Kay Lewis, and Shelia Thompson; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three additional great- grandchildren expected in September 2025. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1842 Otts Chapel Road, Newark, DE. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
