Jane E. Andress

Jane Elizabeth Andress of Newark, Delaware, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 at the age of 84. She was a resilient woman who navigated life with grace, humor, and strength, having been widowed twice, first to Chester L. Holmes, and later to Walter S. Andress. Born on March 29, 1940, in Chester, MD the daughter of the late Willie Earl Elborn and Bertha Mae (Roe) Elborn, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and being known to cook the most incredible meals ever served at a family table. Cooking was her passion—there wasn’t a dish she couldn’t master, and everything she made was delicious. From comforting home-cooked meals to the freshest seafood feasts, she poured her heart into every bite. She not only loved seafood but instilled that love in all of us, making sure that no crab went uneaten and no oyster was left behind. Her adventurous spirit was undeniable. Whether it was a cross-country road trip or a quick weekend getaway, she was always ready to go. Travel wasn’t just something she did—it was part of who she was. And when she wasn’t exploring new places, she was treasure-hunting in re-sale shops where she’d discover hidden gems and turn them into something special. She also had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life, such as a perfectly mixed Bloody Mary—because nothing started a Sunday better than that! More than anything, “Mom Mom” was the heart of our family. She taught us to appreciate good food, embrace adventure, and always keep an eye out for unexpected treasures. Her warmth, wisdom, and humor will be deeply missed, but her love will live on in every meal we share, every journey we take, and every toast we raise in her honor. She is survived by her children, Jane E. Lawson, Roberta L. Holmes, and Brenda L. Ball (Theodore); grandchildren: Christopher Cusumano (Christopher), Nicole Chambers (John), Ashley Holmes, Melissa Ball, Kimberly Lawson, and Amber Giles; great-grandchildren: Julian, Alexia, Madison, Hayden, Jameson, Benjamin, Hunter; and great great grandchild, Jayden. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Roy Elborn, Alfred Elborn, Junior Elborn, John A. Elborn, Grace V. Baxter, Bertha Mae Elborn, Gladys Marie Elborn, Thomas Elborn, Ada Clark, Norman Elborn, James "Sonny" Elborn, Evelyn Hartwell, Pearl Hope, and Ralph Elborn. Though Jane has left this world, her memory will remain in our hearts forever. Her laughter, her love, and the lessons she taught us all to live with intention will never be forgotten. Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. A memorial service in honor of Jane’s life will begin at 11 AM.
