Kathleen Jane Fintak

A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, Kathleen Jane Fintak, 56, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 24, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, William L. Fintak, as well as her children, who were her pride and joy, Nicholas, Alexander, and Nathaniel Fintak, and future daughter-in-law, Lynn Fintak. Born October 2, 1969 to Jane Carlson and the late Charles Earnest Carlson in Chicago, Illinois, Kathy initially pursued a career in physical therapy, having completed a bachelors in Physical Education at the University of Delaware, but went on to work at Discover Bank, where she remained for 35 years, and reached Senior Manager for the Retail Branch and Brokered Investments in Newark, Delaware. Throughout that time, she made a point of being involved in multiple other organizations, whether it was at a local or national level. She dedicated over ten years of her time to mentoring Girl Scouts with Troop 537, guiding them on topics such as financial literacy and preparing them for whatever the world may send their way. Her energy knew no bounds when it came to her children, involving herself in as many extracurriculars as she could, from baseball games and cross-country meets to ballet recitals and martial arts events. In addition, she supported local organizations that worked with homeless veterans, ensuring they were remembered and cared for in as many ways as possible, reaching out to VFW posts every Veteran’s Day to make sure they were honored. Through her dedication to Girl Scouts, her troop hosted annual events for Toys for Tots, volunteered with Stockings for Soldiers, and gave her time to cleanups for the Christiana Rivershed and local campgrounds in preparation for the summer season. In later years, she focused more of her time on disability advocacy, and was a board member for The Freedom Center for Independent Living, assisting with providing accessibility and support to people of all ages living with disabilities. Although she spent much of her time giving back to the community, her passion was gardening. She’s survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Patricia Carlson, her nephews, Andrew and Aspen Carlson, and Nick Kelly, as well as her grand-nephew Joey Carlson, her aunts, Carol Sieber and Barbara Wysocki-Faux, and many cousins. She’s joined in heaven by her older brother, Charles Paul Carlson, her mother-in-law, Diane Mary Fintak, paternal grandparents Paul and Jeanne Carlson, and maternal grandparents Joseph and Mae Wysocki. Visitation will be held at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702 on January 17, 2026, from 9am-12pm, followed by the memorial service at 12pm.
