It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, Pop Pop, and friend, Leslie (Les) Shannon, who left this world on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Les was always a dedicated, hardworking father. He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for over 40 years with a majority of that time also working as a sales associate at Strawbridge’s, Sears, and later at Boscovs. While his working schedule was often full, he still managed to be there for games, school events, or the smallest moments in between. Les shared a deep and enduring bond with his beloved wife of 57 years, Emily (Em), the love of his life. Together, they found joy in the little things, especially their shared love of youth sports. Whether cheering for their favorite team or enjoying a long day at the ball field (whether it was someone that they knew playing or not) they were happiest simply being together. Their love and partnership were the foundation of the family they built. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as Pop Pop—a title he wore with the greatest pride. His favorite cup of tea always seemed to be the one the grandkids made. He especially enjoyed our recent summer vacation to Ocean City, MD where he was greeted and surrounded by all of his grandkids. Les valued family above all else. He believed in staying close, showing up, and keeping the people you love at the center of your life. He lived his life with quiet strength, an incredible work ethic, and a heart full of care for others. He was extremely proud of his 3 children as he watched them grow into the people they are today and saw the loving families they created. His unspoken presence always made his family feel safe and supported. He is survived by his devoted wife, Emily; his children: Jason, Julie (Trevor), and John (Ashlee); his sibling, Gary Shannon (Winifred); and his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Jackson, Alexander, Jeremy, Trace, Addison, Jacoby and Declyn, He also leaves behind many extended family members (nephews Joshua and Corey) and dear friends who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Shannon; and brothers, Kenneth and Wayne. We love you and will carry the memories, and your love with us always. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 9:30-11 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Leslie’s life at 11 AM.
