Llewellyn H. McCarter

Llewellyn H. McCarter, born July 26, 1932, left this life to be with his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2024. He was the youngest of seven children and also had ten half-siblings. He was a miracle baby of the 1930s as his mother died four days after his birth and he weighed in at only 3 lbs and even went as low as 2 lbs. His paternal grandmother took him home and nursed him to health. Amazingly, he lived 91 years! He grew up in New London, PA and was an outstanding 4-star athlete at Avon Grove High School playing baseball, soccer, basketball and track. Llewellyn served proudly in the United States Airforce during the Korean War stationed at Sampson Airbase, NY. He loved music and taught himself to play the organ, guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting with his uncles and son, Dave, and was also an Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #43 and enjoyed many camping trips and activities with the boys. In his early years, Llewellyn worked as a barber, passing this interest on to his youngest daughter, Carol. He also worked at Abbotts Dairy and spent 23 years at the U.S. Postal service before retiring. He was a very sweet, kind, gentle man and had a great sense of humor and taught his grandchildren to enjoy some of his favorite things such as peanut butter hot dogs. He could touch the end of his nose with his tongue, a skill he passed along to some of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was his world, and he loved and adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was loved and adored back by everyone who knew or met him. He was a devout Christian and attended Pike Creek Valley Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church for many years. Left to cherish his memory: his beloved wife and soulmate who he was married to for 70 years, Anna Mary Sharpless McCarter; son, Dave (Mary); daughters, Linda “Lou” McCarter Reale (who was named after him) and Carol DeBrabander; half-sisters, Hilda Groff and Barbara Frye; nine grandchildren: Kimberly Karstetter (Bobby), Kelli Moore (Dave), Amy Parrisi (Alex), Nicole Ellis (Brett), Christina Snover (Michael), Lisa Munn (Brandon), Lauren Bossert (Brandon), Amanda Howard (Tim) and David McCarter, Jr. (Michelle); 18 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Emery, Rhys, Dylan, Drew, Derreck, Kali, Kobi, Mila, Annabelle, Beau, Gianna, Chloe, Emily, Taylor, Isla, Lily and a great-granddaughter on the way; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Llewellyn Y. McCarter and Bertha Patchell McCarter (“Mom and Pop”); and his uncle, Brinton H. McCarter, who all raised him; his father, Samuel Wood “Woodie” McCarter; mother, Edna H. Faddis McCarter; brothers, Samuel W., Lloyd S., and Robert B.; sisters: Betty Lam, Doris Ker, and Alice Gentry; half-siblings: John E., Joan L., Janet M. Osborn, Joel H., Marjorie J. Wright, Thomas G., Ronald W, and Michael; his son-in-law, John Reale, Jr.; and his best friend since childhood, Lane Botts. Services will be held at a later date.
