Phyllis Joyce Gilbert

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Joyce Gilbert, born on September 7, 1940, in Brighton, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Joyce passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, in Delaware, USA. In the final two months of her life, and up until the moment she transitioned, Joyce was surrounded by family and loved ones—an enduring reflection of how she lived her life: always present, always caring, always devoted to those she loved. Joyce was a remarkable and devoted mother, deeply loved by her four children: Stephanie Gilbert, Florence Gilbert, Noel Gilbert (deceased), and Gideon Gilbert. She was a loving, caring, cherished grandmother to: Iyandi, Janene, Osasere, Nosakhare, Dwight (deceased), Azaria, Kenya, Keri, Giella, Taskeith, Alicia, Keithlyn, Chizma, Riel, Fitzallan, Jason and Daniella; and a proud and doting great-grandmother of twelve grandchildren, including: Shayne, Jayden, Amarie. Shequana, Jennecia, Jacquan, J-Kwoon, Caleb, Caliah, Dreya and Drenique. She was dearly loved by her caring older sisters, Dorothy Calendar in Barbados and Nola Parsons (deceased) in Delaware, and by their children—her beloved nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Joyce was also a cherished sister-in- law, aunty, a mother-figure and a true family to the Gilbert’s family from Cane End, Mesopotamia, through her marriage to the late Samuel Arlington “Bob” Gilbert. Joyce was a woman of prayer, courage, strength, and resilience. A hardworking woman both in and outside the home, she was an excellent homemaker and a resourceful provider for her family. She managed her agricultural business operations to achieve sustained productivity, and treated her employees with respect and fairness. She was a committed supporter of her church and an active contributor within the Marriaqua community in St. Vincent, where she was known for her generosity, reliability, and quiet leadership. Known for her love of fashion and her well-put-together style, Joyce had a special fondness for colours, flare and flowers. She carried herself with grace and dignity and was a light that illuminated the lives of everyone who knew her. Joyce will be remembered for the profound impact she made not only on her children and family, but on anyone she encountered who was in need. Whether the need was temporary or ongoing, she gave freely of herself. Her generosity knew no bounds. She stood firmly for what was just and right, even in the midst of adversity, ensuring that others were comfortable, fed, and sheltered when necessary. She shared what she had, no matter how small. She was a mentor to children and youth, and a trusted confidant to women who needed a listening ear, encouragement, and support. A woman of deep faith who loved the Lord, Joyce is remembered for her kindness, compassion, generosity, and her unwavering willingness to go above and beyond to do good for those most in need. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace!
