Richard R. Bennett, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024. He was 72 years old. Born in Clearfield, PA, on August 31, 1952, Richard was the son of the late Richard and Naomi Bennett. He moved to New Castle, DE, as a young boy and graduated from William Penn High School, where he made lifelong friends and cherished memories. Upon graduating from high school, Richard dedicated his professional life to Christiana Care, where he enjoyed a fulfilling career until his retirement. Known for his hard work, dedication, and compassionate nature, Richard made a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the countless patients he served over the years. A longtime member of Fairwinds Baptist Church, he served in the bus ministry for years. He enjoyed Saturday visitation and inviting kids to come to Sunday school. In his personal life, Richard was the epitome of a family man. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Christine Bennett, who was his steadfast companion and best friend. Together they created a warm and welcoming home filled with love and joy. Richard was the proud father of three children: Cynthia “Cindy” (Alex) Breeden, Michael (Amy) Poccynek, and Erin (Tremayne) Poccynek. He adored his grandson, Isaiah Chapman, who brought immense joy and light into his life. Richard’s bond with his family was profound, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He is also survived by his brothers: James Bennett, Mark McGarry (Jennifer), and Scotte McGarry (Charlotte), along with a host of nieces and nephews. Richard’s family was his pride and joy, and he held them close to his heart. Richard was a longtime avid fan of Penn State’s Nittany Lions football, a passion he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. Richard will be remembered for his kindness and his unwavering support of those he loved. His legacy of love, dedication, and service to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Richard R. Bennett will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. A viewing will be held Monday, July 15, 2024, from 10-11 AM at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Rd., Bear, DE 19701 followed by a homegoing service at 11 AM.
