Richard W. Robinson

Richard W. Robinson, age 85, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair at home on February 10, 2026. A loving son, brother, husband, father, and friend, Richard lived a life marked by loyalty, faith, and quiet strength. Richard was fiercely devoted to his beloved wife, Mary Montgomery Robinson, who passed away at home on June 24, 2025. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and commitment. He was also a steadfast and dependable friend, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. A faithful member of the Church of Wilmington, Richard deeply valued worship and fellowship, and he cherished the community he found there. A 1958 graduate of P.S. duPont High School, Richard was also a proud member of DeMolay. Immediately after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following his training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he served as a Military Policeman and was stationed for a time at Guantanamo Bay. Known for his strong will and determined spirit, Richard was well suited to the title of “Jarhead.” He served honorably and was discharged with distinction before returning home to Delaware to begin the next chapter of his life. Richard’s work ethic was evident throughout his career. He worked in manufacturing at Electric Hose and Rubber and General Motors before later serving as a bank teller and hotel manager at the Kent Manor Inn and Howard Johnson’s. Eventually, he returned to industrial work at ICI’s Atlas Point Plant on Cherry Lane, where he spent the remainder of his career, retiring as a skilled pipefitter. He also pursued further education at Goldey Beacom College in 1963 and again in 1975, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to growth and learning. Family was the cornerstone of Richard’s life. He was fiercely loyal to his extended family, offering his time, strength, and support whenever it was needed. His presence was steady, protective, and dependable. Richard now joins his parents in heaven, Richard and Dorothy Robinson; his sister and brother, Marion J. Robinson and Harry R. Robinson; his nephew, Wes B. Robinson; his grandchildren, Nicole M. Robinson, Jason E. Ford, and Michael R. Ford. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda R. Whitt, and her husband, Mark; his granddaughter, Calysta D. Robinson and her husband, Shawn Hall; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Rayven, Serenity, Harmony, Brooke, Elizabeth, Emily, Lillyana, and Alyvia, along with a growing number of great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy. He is also survived by his brother, James E. Robinson, and his cousins, Louis, William, and Mary Lou. Though he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that Richard’s faith sustained him throughout his life and now welcomes him home. His strength, loyalty, and love remain woven into the lives of all who knew him.
