Richard J. Rybinski

Richard J. Rybinski, age 84, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025. Born on November 3, 1940, Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Poppop who dedicated his life to serving others and cherishing his family. If you knew him, you would probably have a story or two to tell, most likely involving a prank, a sharp-witted joke, or a challenge that brought out his competitive spark. Richard spent 30 years with the Wilmington Fire Department, retiring as a Captain, a title he wore with quiet pride. He never made a fuss about rank or recognition. He just did the job, showed up for people, and led with humility and strength. Outside the firehouse, Richard had a love for things that made you think. He enjoyed challenging puzzles. He was competitive in the best way, always up for a game, a riddle, or a debate that kept everyone on their toes. When April Fools’ Day rolled around, you knew you were in for something. He had a playful streak and loved making people laugh. He kept active, working in his vegetable garden, running daily when he was younger, and walking in the park in his older years. He was always found cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies through every season. He was a big fan of many movies, a steady reader, and someone who genuinely preferred being outdoors. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Rybinski; his brother, Frank Rybinski Jr.; and his daughter Melissa Rybinski. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Trudy Rybinski; his daughter, Holly Rybinski; and his cherished grandchildren, Gage and Scarlet. He also leaves behind many friends and former colleagues. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Richard J. Rybinski from 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, Delaware 19702. A second visitation will be held the following day Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 901 E Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM. Interment will take place at immediately following the service at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808.
