Robert "Bob" Faulkner Jr.

A. Robert Faulkner, Jr., (“Bob”) age 81 passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 8, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the only child of the late A. Robert Faulkner, Sr., and Ada Mae Bishop Faulkner. Following graduation from Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN, Bob continued his education at the University of Tennessee where he studied Business Administration and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduating from UT in 1961, he took a job in his father’s business, Tennessee Institute of Electronics. In 1962 the family moved to Charlotte, NC, where Bob was employed by DuPont as a marketing representative. His career took him to Wilmington, DE, in 1964, where they have remained to the present day. Bob was part of the team involved in getting Tyvek certified for the housing market before retiring from DuPont in 1991. Bob loved spending time with his family, especially during their vacations to Outer Banks, NC, Wild Dunes in Charleston, SC, and Gatlinburg, TN. He had a special talent for restoring old cars and turned a run-down 1956 Porsche 356 into a thing of beauty. Bob was also an avid cyclist and competed in the Delaware Senior Olympics where he medaled on several occasions. He contributed his deep bass singing voice to a barbershop quartet and the church choir. Bob was an extremely talented artist working in water color, oil, acrylic, and pencil with a primary focus on abstract art. His side business of “Commemoratures” combined caricatures and commemoration in a unique and personalized rendering that his customers loved. His wife Rosa Maria affectionately called him the “Minister of Transportation” as he faithfully drove her to her various speaking engagements. Bob’s quick wit and ability to converse on any subject endeared him to everyone he met. Bob loved attending Ogletown Baptist Church with his family, and his deep faith in God was central to his life. He served as a deacon, usher and on various church committees. He used his creative artistic talents designing and constructing sets for church dramas and musicals. In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Rosa Maria De Robertis Faulkner; he is survived by three loving children: A. Robert Faulkner, III (Sheri), Karen Faulkner Knoettner (Jeff), and Kathryn Faulkner O’Bryan (John); and three cherished grandchildren: Ensign Ian O’Bryan, Kristin O’Bryan, and Stephen O’Bryan. Family and friends are invited to visit at Ogletown Baptist Church, 316 Red Mill Road, Newark, DE 19713 on Saturday, March 16 between 9:30 and 11am.
