Robert L.J. Quinn

Robert L.J. Quinn, formerly of Florida, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 100. Just shy of his 101 birthday. Bob lived a remarkable life and influenced many people in all walks of life. It all started in Reading, PA where he was born on a farm to James and Margaret Quinn. As a young boy, he delivered milk to Mr. Boscov, the founder of the famous Boscov Department Store. At the age of 19, Bob joined the Marine Corps and trained at Camp Lejeune. He was a member of the 2nd Marine Division during World War II and he helped win the Battle of Tarawa, a pivotal conflict in the war, and participated in the Battle of Saipan. Bob was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in service. After returning from war, Bob worked at Winterthur for Henry DuPont as a guard. Later, he went on to work at General Motors for 37 years and he served as the VP of the UAW; he was instrumental in saving many jobs and benefits for the workers. Bob also enjoyed politics and worked for Pete DuPont’s campaign, meeting many prominent politicians throughout his lifetime from both sides of the aisle. Bob loved to travel to different places. Florida was his favorite place after retirement, where he moved to in 1983. He loved being the “tour guide” for visiting family and friends as he knew the best spots for restaurant eating and sightseeing. Bob was a great cook as well and whipped up scrumptious dishes for church functions, military friends, and other loved ones. To be closer to family, Bob moved back to New Castle, Delaware. He was the oldest member of Atterbury VFW Post 3420 where he enjoyed hanging out with his fellow veterans. Bob is survived by his daughters: Carol Tobias Quinn, Pat Quinn Snover, and Karen Quinn; siblings: Billy, David, and Linda; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Margaret Quinn; granddaughter, Kelly Reid; and numerous other extended family members. The family would like to give special thanks to Patrick Hughes, a former US Marine and a dear friend of Robert.
