Tina M. Fields

Tina M. Fields, 59, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Tina will be remembered for her warm heart, her strength, and the deep love she had for her family. She was a caring soul who always spoke the sweetest words about others, yet she also had a sassy and spunky side that made her truly unforgettable. Those who knew her well recognized her spunk whenever her “Leary Lip” appeared. For over 30 years, Tina was an active participant in the Special Olympics, excelling in a variety of sports including bocce, swimming, bowling, basketball, skating, cheerleading, and equestrian events. She proudly represented Delaware in the World Games in Ireland, earning silver and gold medals in bocce. Tina also served as a longtime spokesperson for the Special Olympics, delivering speeches and inspiring countless athletes and supporters with her dedication, courage, and joyful spirit. Beyond her athletic achievements, Tina was a passionate advocate. She helped establish the Turner Syndrome group in Delaware, creating a supportive space for those affected. She was also an active member of the Developmental Disabilities Council, attending conferences and promoting awareness and inclusion. Tina was honored as the first athlete selected for the Epic program through the YMCA, led by Mr. J, highlighting her pioneering spirit and leadership. Tina had a love for shopping and was well known by employees at Boscov’s, Dollar Tree, and JCPenney. She especially loved purses, Barbies and dolls, and anything purple—her favorite color. She also enjoyed visiting Ms. Robino’s for her favorite ravioli platter and took pride in being named after Ms. Robino’s daughter—Tina Marie! She is survived by her husband, Tommy Fields; her mother, Louise M. Leary Fox; her brother, Earl “Butch” Fox; and her sister-in-law, Kelly Fox. She is also survived by her niece, Courtney Goolsby (Matthew Goolsby); her nephew, Chris Fox; her great-nephews, Trystan and Gavyn Goolsby; and her great-niece, Emersyn Goolsby along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tina was preceded in death by her father, Earl Fox Jr., and her grandparents, Charles P. and Louise M. Leary. Tina’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness, advocacy, and joyful spirit. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, December 15 from 9:30 to 11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19711. A service in celebration of Tina’s life will be celebrated at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
