Virginia S. Wagner

Virginia Scott Wagner, known to many as Grams, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and friend, was called home on April 5, 2025. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love. Born on January 4, 1935, Virginia lived a life full of grace, compassion, and unwavering strength. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Wagner, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage and partnership until his passing in 1993. Their bond was a true testament to enduring love. Virginia was the proud mother of five children; Cynthia Niggebrugge (Paul), Richard Wagner Jr. (Robin), Sharon Mahoney (David), Ginger Jornlin (Kevin) and Eric Wagner (Stacy). Her legacy continues through her 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and their husbands and wives. Also survived by her sister, Louise Tabasso and her brother, Granville Bud Scott (Alice). Her extended family and lifelong friends—were equally cherished and held close to her heart. Family was everything to Virginia, and she took great joy in staying connected with each and every one of them. Virginia had an incredible memory and an even more incredible heart. She had a true gift for keeping up with the lives of her large and ever-growing family. Through postcards, phone calls, and visits, she made each person feel remembered and important. She always knew who had a birthday coming up, who just started a new job, or who needed a little extra encouragement. Her ability to listen, remember, and care deeply was one of her most treasured qualities. As a dedicated nurse, Virginia devoted much of her life to caring for others. Her compassion, empathy, and professionalism touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. She found true purpose in helping others heal and feel comforted in times of need. She had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys, feeling the sun on her face, watching flowers bloom, spotting a hummingbird outside her window, savoring a piece of fudge, or getting lost in a good book. She especially loved playing cards with friends and family—moments filled with laughter, competition, connection, and warmth. Virginia was a beacon of kindness, always leading by example. Her life was guided by love, forgiveness, and a quiet strength. Those who knew her were forever impacted by her generous heart, her gentle wisdom, and her unshakable spirit. Virginia had a way of finding wonder in the everyday, and she reminded those around her to slow down, let things go and live in the moment. Her life was a shining example of what it means to be a truly good human being. She will be missed dearly and remembered always. Services with be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 900 Washington St., Wilmington, DE, 19801, on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 12 noon. Donations in Virginia's memory can be made to the Ryan R. Wagner Scholarship fund C/O Delaware Community Foundation.
