William C. Mitchell

William C. Mitchell, known to all as “Wild Bill,” passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 10, 2025. He was 74 years old. Born on April 2, 1951, in Maryland, Bill was the son of the late Emory J. and Rebecca Jane Mitchell. He grew up in Newark, Delaware, and graduated from the University of Delaware before embarking on a lifelong career as an electrician for Chrysler Motor Corporation, from which he retired when the Newark plant closed. Bill was a man of many passions. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, always eager to visit or to ask when the next family gathering would be. His enthusiasm extended to the sports fields, where he played basketball and softball with his daughters when they were young. Bill’s love for sports never wavered, and he was a constant presence at his grandchildren's sporting events, whether it was soccer, softball, basketball, football, or wrestling. His infectious laugh and ever-present jokes—sometimes leaving you scratching your head—were a reminder of his playful, good-natured spirit. A lover of bluegrass music and festivals, Bill formed many lasting friendships through his shared passion for music. He also had a deep love for classic cars and was an avid comic book collector. But above all, Bill was a giver. He gave his love freely to his family every day, and he donated to numerous charitable causes. His humble, kind nature and happy-go-lucky attitude made him a joy to be around, and he always strived to make a difference in the lives of those he encountered. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Bill is survived by his daughters, Kristina Russo (Anthony Russo) and Kasie Mitchell; his brother, Jack; his step-sister, Tish; his step-brother, Wayne; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Hannah, Adrianna, Carina, Cole, and Mason, Serenity and Violet as well as his great-granddaughter, Lucia; his sister-in-law Linda Mitchell; and niece Angela Morrison. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve and Ed Mitchell; and stepmother, Becky Mitchell. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday August 23 from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. A service in celebration of Bill’s life will follow at 12 PM. Burial will be private.
